Austrian Pine

The Austrian Pine, ‘Pinus nigra,’ is an evergreen conifer that will thrive in urban locations. The densely branched tree produces long, dark green needles. Its spreading branches will from a pyramidal shape when young. As the tree matures, however, it will often achieve a picturesque flat-topped head. The Austrian Pine will also make a good choice for a thick screen or windbreak in more rural settings. Starting with a two year old seeding in a good site, it should reach about five feet in only six to seven years.

Autumn Blaze® Red Maple

The Autumn Blaze Red Maple, ‘Acer fremanii,’ can grow up to three feet per year under the right conditions. This extremely fast-growing maple is tolerant of clay soils as well as drought conditions. It is most often planted for its brilliant red fall color. Developed in north-central Ohio, the Autumn Blaze Maple is a deciduous tree that develops a dense oval head with strong branching. This is a popular shade tree as well as and ornamental. It will be able to survive in a wide range of climates, from Michigan to central Florida.

Autumn Olive

The Autumn Olive Tree, ‘Elaeagnus umbellate,’ produces small (less than a quarter inch), fleshy fruits that will range in color from pink to red. The fruits are finely dotted with pale scales, and are produced in abundance yearly. This plant grows as a medium sized tree or large shrub, and can reach height of over twenty feet. Its leaves are dark green to grayish-green on their upper surfaces, while the lower surface is covered with silvery white scales. This conspicuous characteristic of the Autumn Olive tree can be seen from a distance as the leaves flutter in the wind.

Autumn Purple Ash

The Autumn Purple White Ash, ‘Fraxinus americana,’ is a fast growing variety of Ash that can grow from two to three feet per year. This seedless male tree is a cultivar of the species, and is native to moist areas. It exhibits a nearly pyramidal form with a round top when your, but will gradually slow down and attain an oval shape at maturity. This wonderful tall shade tree prefers to be planted in a sunny location.

Autumn Sweet Plum Tree

The Autumn Sweet plum produces fruits that are firm and very sweet. This new variety of plum produces larger fruits than the Italian Plum. The oval fruits are fully purple in color. This late bloomer will require a pollinator in order to set fruit. These plums dry well and have an excellent shelf life.

Bald Cypress

The Bald Cypress, ‘Taxodium distichum,’ is a stately tree that is commonly grown in parks or yards. This is a lofty, deciduous conifer that exhibits a slender, pyramidal shape. Bald Cypress trees have moderate water requirements, and are often grown in wet areas by landscapers and landowners. The needle-shaped leaves are dark green in the spring and summer. This plant will only produce its “knees” when grown either in or around water for most of the year. The Bald Cypress can thrive in many types of soil and is very adaptable to both wet and dry sites.

Red Leaf Japanese Barberrt

The Barberry Red Leaf Japanese, ‘Berberis thunbergii,’ features slender, spiny and small branches with roundly oval leaves that are a deep red to purple color. This deciduous shrub can reach up to two feet in height with a spread of almost three feet. Its small yellow flowers are not showy and are present from April to May beneath the leaves. Although tolerant of many types of soil, the Barberry bush will not grow well in excessively wet locations. This plant makes an excellent hedge or filler shrub.

Bartlett Pear Tree

The Bartlett Pear tree produces a bright yellow fruit. This is the nations leading variety of pear. Bartlett Pear trees have been known to bear fruit for up to seventy five years when planted on a good site. The fruits are aromatic and are perfect for eating straight off the tree. This excellently tasting fruit is not only eaten fresh, but is also widely used for canning and cooking. The very sweet and juicy pears do not ripen properly on the tree, and therefore growers often pick the fruit when it is mature but still green.
